A Christmas Carol

Novel by Charles Dickens – reviewed by Circe Aguiar

“A Christmas Carol” tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a grumpy and selfish old man who hates Christmas and its joy. One Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his old business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him that he will be visited by three spirits: the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. These spirits take Scrooge on a journey through his life, showing him happy memories, the struggles of people around him now, and a frightening glimpse of his lonely future if he does not change his ways.

Scrooge learns the importance of kindness, generosity, and compassion through this magical journey. Dickens uses this story to remind us how our actions affect others and to encourage the spirit of giving, especially during the holiday season.

Though written in the 1800s, A Christmas Carol remains a powerful message about redemption and the chance to start anew. It is filled with memorable characters, like the cheerful Bob Cratchit and his brave little son Tiny Tim, whose optimism shines despite hardship. The novella mixes warmth, humor, and a touch of the supernatural, making it a timeless story for all ages.
